Geophysics post-doc (Southampton, UK) 募集案内
-----------------------------------

Post-doctoral Researcher in Geophysics of the Sumatra Margin

School of Ocean and Earth Science

National Oceanography Centre, Southampton

Salary £25,134 - £30,193 per annum

Applications are invited to work with Dr Tim Henstock and Dr Lisa
McNeill on part of a major study into segmentation of the Sumatran
subduction zone. The project will involve working with seismic reflection
and refraction data to be collected in 2008 and early 2009.

Following the major earthquakes in 2004 and 2005, a consortium
programme with total value of £4M has been funded by the NERC to
investigate how the structure and physical properties of the Sumatran
subduction zone relate to coseismic deformation. Five UK institutions,
together with numerous international collaborators, are involved in a
multidisciplinary field experiment spanning a year starting in mid-2008.
You will work with seismic refraction and multichannel reflection data
at all stages from detailed planning through acquisition to processing
and analysis to produce 3D seismic velocity models and structural
interpretations. You will spend significant time at sea and gain experience
working in an international team on a high-profile project. More details
are available at:

http://www.noc.soton.ac.uk/gg/sumatra/

You will possess, or be about to complete, a PhD in Geophysics or a
related area. You will demonstrate the ability to conduct world-class
research, a strong desire to work as part of a research team and have
excellent written and oral communication skills. You will have experience
of processing multichannel seismic data or analysing and inverting
seismic refraction data. Experience of working at sea and using ProMAX
software would also be advantageous.

The post is a fixed term appointment for up to 3 years, ideally
commencing in January 2008 although some flexibility may be possible.
The salary will be in the range of £25,134 to £30,193 per annum.

Informal enquiries can be made to Dr Tim Henstock
(email:thennoc.soton.ac.uk, tel: +44 (0)2380 59 6491)
in the first instance.

The closing date for completed application forms is 14 September
2007 at 12 noon. Please quote reference number 1392-07-E on all
correspondence.
